Does anyone know what exactly is being done to I-275 around Hillsborough Ave? Why have they cut down all of the trees?

I will be posting a Bungalow Alert to the neighborhood tonight with many of the details. In short, they are widening the freeway to meet Federal requirements for emergency lane size. They are not adding new lanes, just more emergency pull-off space.
There is no plan by FDOT to replace the trees and landscaping. OSHNA and the Green Artery are pushing both FDOT and the City to provide some help there.
