New Sidewalk on 12th at MacDugal Park

These shots were taken Sunday afternoon on 12th Ave. from Sligh southward on the east side of the street down to the end of McDugald Field by Greenspace committee chair Myron Griffin.

The committee has been working on getting a sidewalk connector from SESH up 12th street to Patterson Park on the Hilsborough River.  The City gave us bad news this year that we were removed from the budget but would be given consideration for the 2011 budget.  Imagine our surprise when we noticed concrete forms on 12th avenue at MacDugal park.

It turns out that there had been an ADA complaint regarding the area and the City responded by adding sidewalk just down the length of the park.  While this is not part of the Seminole Heights Trail effort, we always welcome new sidewalk in the neighborhood.  It is quite rare in our area.

In the mean time, the Greenspace committee is working with Ybor Heights, Tampa Heights, and greater Seminole Heights to craft an even larger sidewalk network that may connect to the high-speed rail line planned for the area.

I live on 12th street, have lived in the same place for 47 years.  Love the idea of a sidewalk to take my walks on.  As well love seeing McDougal Park being used.  But what's going to happen when the parents of the football players that practice there start parking on the sidewalk.  It turns 12th Street into a very dangerous road with walkers.

There is a parking lot for the park.  If the cars pull up onto the sidewalk, please call the code enforcement chair or the TPD non-emergency number.  This is illegal parking.  Also, please let the OSHNA Greenspace chair or the Board of Directors know as we can continue to work with the city to improve parking for our public spaces.

If you could give me an email address for OSHNA Greenspace chair or Board of Directors I will send them an email concerning this matter.  I have sent an email to the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation as well as Neighborhood and Community Relations.

tmcrio,

I am an OSHNA board member, so an email is not necessary.  :-)

However, you can find a list of all board members and committee chairs with contact information (often included a phone number) under the "About" link at the top of this website.  Click on "Officers and Chairs".   You'll also notice that there are standard email addresses like "president@", "vicepresident@", "secretary@", and "treasurer@".

Code Enforcement chair is Peter Spanos: pspanos@oldseminoleheights.org.

THANK YOU!
Hopefully something can be resolved with this matter.  The next time they practice I am going to try and get some pictures of the traffic jam created!

I guess you would have to drive down the street and realize that we have lost some precious space.  Cars are now parking on the sidewalks.  If they park on the street it would be a one way street.  Better???

Better???   12th Street as a one way street?  no it is not better!!
But how do we get the parents to parking in the parking area?
Why could the city not move the poles that border the entire park "in" towards parks to allow or make parking spaces.. angle, parallel, whatever.. just additional parking.
I guess the parents just want to watch their children play from their cars.. but when I go past the cars 80% of them are empty.
