Soccer Event Raises Fun and Funds

On August 28th, OSHNA in conjunction with the Old Seminole Heights Preservation Consortium (OSHPC) held an event at Henry & Ola park to raise funds for replacing the degraded soccer goal posts in the park.

Eddie Oyakhilome of the EJJE Foundation conducted a free soccer clinic with the help of the University of Tampa Women's soccer team.   Volunteers staffed a BBQ grill with hamburgers and hotdogs and healthy drinks and snacks for the children.  About 40 kids in all showed up to enjoy the morning clinic.

Funds raised that morning came out to an even $400.  The players on two adult teams that use the park each weekend donated in addition to the parents of children attending the clinic.  Proceeds from the 2010 Seminole Heights Home Tour already cover two of the three soccer fields.  OSHNA and the OSHPC need to raise an additional $1000 to cover the cost of the third field.

Anyone interested in donating can do so through the OSHPC through OSHNA's store.  [Click Here to DonateAll donations through the OSHPC are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt in the mail for your records.

The University of Tampa did a great story on the event

Some photos from the event:

Eddie gathers the early crowd around him to start them warming up while other kids arrive.

University of Tampa Women's Soccer players help drill the kids in basic techniques.  I'm not sure who was having the most fun.

When we said "All Ages", we meant it.  Here is a future U of T soccer star showing that possession is 9/10ths of the game.
