Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association would like to thank everyone who came out to the I-275 and I-4 expansion vote.  Your voices were heard and commitments were made to our neighborhoods.  There is still a lot to do to ensure the best possible outcome for our neighborhood.  Below is Commissioner Les Miller comments at the meeting and his commitment to us.  We are coming up with a plan to ensure FDOT will comply Commissioner Miller’s requests while keeping all parties accountable for their promises to the Tampa Bay Communities. Commissioner Miller’s Comments THIS IS A DIFFICULT ISSUE. I AM 64 YEARS OLD AND I WAS BORN IN TAMPA ON 18TH AVENUE RIGHT OFF OF 22ND STREET. MY WIFE, GRANDMOTHER OWNED A HOME ON 13TH AVENUE RIGHT OFF OF 22ND STREET. YOU FIGURE THAT AGE THAT WAS BEFORE ANY INTERSTATE CAME THROUGH OR ANY URBAN REMOVAL. Key Points From TBX Town Hall Meeting

If you were unable to attend the August 28th meeting regarding TBX, here’s what you need to know: At a cost of $9 billion +, TBX will destroy irreplaceable community assets TBX places valuable transportation funding into just one project when our region needs multimodal solutions and transit. TBX introduces variable rate tolls that tax citizens who use them twice TBX will dramatically affect the city & county negatively. It destroys historic residences, buildings and businesses in Tampa’s urban core. It is NOT what residents have told planning official they want. I-275 & I-4 Expansion Tearing Through Heights Communities

Florida Ave. For the past several weeks, we have been working to develop an educational forum about FDOT’s Tampa Bay Express (TBX) project, in conjunction with our community partners, Sunshine Citizens, Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association, The Heights Collective and the Urban Charrette. In preparation for our goal to PACK the MPO Board Meeting on Aug. 4th with HUNDREDS of people, we designed this educational forum for anyone who wants to know more about FDOT’s Tampa Bay Express (TBX) plans to put toll lanes on Bay Area interstates. This is a can’t miss event for anyone who wants to know more about this project and its impacts, and for anyone who wants to learn how they can do their part to help.
