Let's Stop The I-275 Widening!

At the June Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) meeting, board members voted to widen I-275 between Bearss and Hillsborough. It was not noticed or on the public agenda, and passed on an 8-7 vote. The TPO Citizens Advisory Committee opposed it 11-1 at its meeting this week.

Of the eight TPO board members who voted for the project, just one (Josh Wostal) represents Old Seminole Heights. Four of them are not elected officials at all, and two others are the mayors of Plant City and Temple Terrace.

We don't want our tax dollars being spent on a project that will increase noise and pollution while decreasing our property values and not actually solving traffic or congestion.

This is what you can do:

SHOW UP!

The next TPO meeting is Wednesday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m. at 601 E Kennedy Blvd, 2nd floor.

BE THERE TO TELL THE TPO TWO THINGS:

  • Reverse the decision to prioritize capacity increases. Studies show capacity increases don't decrease congestion they decrease property values.
  • Demand the TPO change its bylaws to remove the voting power from unelected bureaucrats. Hillsborough TPO is the only one in Florida that gives so much voting power to non-elected officials.

To speak at the meeting you need to sign up ahead of time here .

You don't even have to speak! Just showing up matters. At best, you will only need to attend for 45 minutes as public comment is limited to 30 minutes.

CALL AND EMAIL!
